കാലം ജീനിയസ്സിന്റെ പദവിമുദ്രകൾ നൽകി അംഗീകരിച്ച മാധവിക്കുട്ടി സമകാലികമൂല്യങ്ങൾക്കു വിപരീതമായി സ്വയം നിർമിച്ച എഴുത്തുകാരിയാണ്. എന്റെ കഥ ഇതിനു തെളിവാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ മറ്റൊരു എഴുത്തുകാരിയും ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു സംഭാവന ആത്മകഥയുടെ രൂപത്തിൽ സാഹിത്യത്തിനു നൽകിയിട്ടില്ല. നിരുപാധികമായ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ ബലിഷ്ഠസൗന്ദര്യമാണ് ആ കൃതി. ഹിമഭൂമികളുടെ അലസമായ സമാധാനം വെറുക്കുന്ന കലാകാരിയാണ് എന്റെ കഥ എഴുതിയ മാധവിക്കുട്ടി. എഴുതുമ്പോൾ അവർക്ക് ഭയത്തിന്റെ അർത്ഥം അറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാ. വിനാശത്തിന്റെ മുന്നേറ്റംപോലെ എഴുതാൻപോലും അവർക്കു കഴിയുന്നു. പ്രാർത്ഥനയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനരൂപങ്ങൾ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ സെക്സിനെ അവർ വിശകലനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്റെ കഥയിൽ ആത്മകഥാപരമായ യാഥാർത്ഥ്യങ്ങൾ അവർ ആവിഷ്കരിക്കുന്നു. അതോടൊപ്പം ആത്മസുഖത്തിനുവേണ്ടി സ്വന്തം യാഥാർത്ഥ്യങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ കലാസൃഷ്ടി ഒരേസമയം ആത്മകഥയും സ്വപ്നസാഹിത്യവുമാണ്. സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെയും സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെയും പുതിയ ആഖ്യാനങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള പരീക്ഷണംലകൂടിയാണത്. Though My Story was supposed to be an autobiography, Madhavikutty later admitted that there was plenty of fiction in it. She was motivated to write this as she became ill and thought will not survive. She recounted the trials of her marriage and her painful self-awakening as a woman and writer. She became an icon for women, in India and elsewhere, struggling to liberate themselves from sexual and domestic oppression. Her tumultuous life seeking eternal love and the vagaries of lust drew the ire of the purists and fundamentalists alike.
